Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance - Anime Review

As I thought that the previous Evangelion renewal movie was okay to average at best, this movie IMO picks up the surprises and characterization of the cast, in a new way. I did think that the opening scene of Asuka in her red Evangelion was a great moment to open with, as IMO it made an impact like when Asuka debuts with her red Evangelion unit standing on the aircraft carriers in the original TV series. I also liked how this movie deviates from the original TV series, as Mari Illustrious Makinami gets some spotlight IMO in this movie with some fanservice scenes, and epic fight IMO with Eva Unit 2. I also liked how the elevator scene with Rei and Asuka was changed, compared to the original TV series, as this scene in this movie added to the character development of both Asuka and Rei. I thought that the change compared to the original TV series, of who was piloting Eva Unit 4, when it was reclassified as an angel, was an interesting change IMO. I thought that the way this movie ended with Kaworu, was genius. Overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot, and I can’t wait to see the next movie, and how it continues the story of Evangelion.
