Terminator Zero - Anime Review
As I’m an anime fan of mainly sci-fi anime, when I heard that there was going to be a Terminator anime series, I was excited and fearful at the same time. As I enjoyed the first two live action Terminator movies by James Cameron, I didn’t like the remaining Terminator live action films, because they just repeated the same plot pretty much over and over again. When the first trailer of Terminator Zero dropped, I was impressed with the trailer, and it gave me hope that at last, that there will be a good Terminator installment, in the Terminator franchise.
The only minor element I didn’’t like about Terminator Zero is that Eriko got a bit of plot armor in regards about surviving the attacks of the T-800 Terminator, in this anime series. I thought the revelation of the plot from episode seven was a good twist, while also being new and unquie to the Terminator franchise. I thought that placing the setting in Japan was a good idea from the show runners, as Terminator Zero showed how deadly a Terminator can be, as in Japan it’s hard to own a firearm/gun. I thought all the Easter eggs from the Terminator franchise movies was used well, in this anime series.
I thought that Malcom’s children (Misaki, Kenta and Reika) were likeable, and developed quite well, over the course of this eight-episode anime series. I thought that the violence in this anime series was tasteful and treated the viewer/audience with intelligence. I thought that the animation by Production I.G was excellent as always, though I would also have to say that the soundtrack to this anime series was good also. Overall, I thought that this anime series was solid, and I would recommend this anime series to fans of The Terminator franchise. I will admit though IMO it did take seven episodes to get background information about Malcom’s background/past, and for the plot of this anime series to be fully revealed to the viewer. Despite the plot of this anime series did take sometime to get revealed to the audience/viewer, I would say that if you are looking for a good horror/scifi anime series, I would say that this anime series, is well worth your time.
