Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture - Anime Review
As I’m a big fan of the Code Geass TV series and OVA series (Akito of the Exile), I had high hopes that this installment of the Code Geass franchise. After watching all twelve episodes of Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture, I was disappointed with the plot and characters of this installment of Code Geass. I thought that the first three episodes of this installment of Code Geass was solid, but the lack of character development from the main leads (Ash and Roze) left me disappointed, and with a sour taste in my mouth. I hoped that Roze would reveal her real identity to Ash in this series early, and that they would both grow as characters, with the proper screenplay, but this didn’t occur until later on in the series. I thought that the mecha designs that are piloted in this series were good. Despite liking the various knightmare units, from the very first episode of this series, that Ash’s knightmare seemed to be invincible and overpowered, and IMO there was no tension in the various knightmare fights that occured.
As music in anime can help elevate a scene, I felt that the soundtrack to this anime series wasn’t very good IMO, and made the scenes of the anime series seem dull and lifeless. As the director of this anime series is Yoshimitsu Ohashi, I had a look at his previous anime series that he has directed, and IMO I think that Yoshimitsu hadn’t directed a big hit anime series from his anime production resume. As IMO that Yoshimitsu Ohashi is a no name director IMO, I had a little bit of fear in-regards to going into this anime series, and my gut feeling was correct. As I find this installment of the Code Geass franchise average at best, I tried to like this series, but attractive character designs, can only take you so far. The only element of this anime series that I liked were the cameo appearances or eastern eggs of other Code Geass characters that appear in the Code Geass universe.
Overall, I thought that this series was average at best, but if a physical release of this series becomes available in the future, I will only get it to complete my Code Geass physical media collection.
