Supergirl Rebirth Volume 2: Escape from the Phantom Zone TPB - Review

As I’m a fan of comic books and heard good word of mouth about the DC Super-Girl Rebirth comic books, I thought that I would kindly read and share my thoughts about this comic book run. As I have little to no experience on reading any Supergirl history and lore of this DC character, after reading all six chapters, I thought that this second volume of Supergirl was solid. As this incarnation of Supergirl explores the lore and history of Supergirl, she isn’t alone in this TPB, as Batgirl makes an appearance in this TPB.

The opening scene of this TPB has Batgirl and Supergirl appearing in National City, where they both team up with one another, and they are fast friends. I thought that Supergirl’s delemina of hearing a voice from the Phantom Zone was interesting, as she wants to help Gayle from the Phantom Zone. Despite IMO thinking that Supergirl is a bit too trusting in this TPB, I can understand her naivety, as Supergirl is trying to do the right thing, as a Kryptonian. As Supergirl is teaming up with Batgirl for the majority of this TPB, I thought throughout this TPB, the comic shows off how smart Batgirl is.

As this is a Supergirl TPB, Superman makes an appearance in this TPB, though I thought that the team up of these characters were interesting, as the team up of Supergirl and Superman against Emerald Empess was interesting IMO. I thought that seeing Superman and Supergirl in the Fortress of Solitude was interesting, as Supegirl learns more about her Krypton heritage.

I thought the introduction of the charcter Catco, being a side character to Batgirl and Supergirl in this TPB was an element that I liked, as Supergirl doesn’t have a genius mind, when it comes to Krypton technology. I thought the plot element of Katarina Bissell being a rich CEO, and having access to technology based off Kryptonian designs, is a bit convenient IMO, but the cast has to get to the Phantom Zone somehow. When the cast of Batgirl, Supergirl and Catco got to the Phantom Zone, the story IMO picks up. I thought it was interesting IMO seeing Supergirl try her best to defeat XA-DU without her powers. I thought that the cliffhanger ending of this TPB was evil, as I want to read the next TPB as soon as possible. Overall, I enjoyed this TPB a lot more then the first TPB, and I can’t wait to read more adventures of Supergirl.
